The Power Within
There’s power in words.
It’s unsettling to hear survivors say, “What happened to me made me stronger.”
The truth is, you were strong already.
That inherent strength is what allowed you to survive and continue to push forward.
Who holds the power in that statement?
When we say, “what happened to me made me stronger,” we inadvertently credit our attackers with giving us strength.
This is not true.
No one should ever have to experience violence to discover their strength.
Yes, we can grow and learn from traumatic experiences, but this growth doesn't come from the trauma itself — it comes from the resilience and courage we already possess.
Surviving violence is a testament to our existing strength.
There is life after violence, and you owe it to yourself to live fully and happily.
Healing from such an ordeal and learning how to thrive is proof of the strength, courage, and resilience you already had within you.
Had you not faced violence, you would have found other experiences to learn and grow from.
Remember: what happened to you did not make you stronger — you were already incredibly strong.
This strength is inherent and independent of the trauma you endured.
Let’s shift the narrative.
Let’s recognise and celebrate the strength that was always within us.
Together, we can challenge harmful perceptions, redefine what we consider abuse, and create a culture that supports and protects survivors.
Stay strong, stay resilient, and remember:
Your Strength Has Always Been, And Will Always Be, Your Own
